How will Rammellzee be remembered?

Few artist in hip hop manage to truly transcend their genre, and in the world of early graffiti i name a few of my personal favorites Doze. Basquiate and Rammellzee, all of which seam to see the world from a slightly off kilter poisson. but my focus today lay with Rammellzee having just heard of his wife Ms. Zagari Rammellzee passing form my good friend Paz Dean post on face book. thanks bro.

What is Gothic Futurism in Rammellzee's own words,  "liberate the mystical power of letters from the strictures of modern alphabetical standardization and that they had inherited this mission from medieval monks". Simply dope Rammellzee often spoke in a cartoon characters voice which became known as Gangsta Duck rarely seen in public with is futuristic costume.

To old school heads Rammellzee was immortalize by his track Beat Bop recorded in 1983 ” a 12-inch single by Rammellzee and K-Rob  Basquiat also illustrated the record’s cover.

Rammellzee created his own rules for his own world even universe. which sadly for me i  have never seen live. my hope is that one day his work will be presented here over in the uk.

now with the resent passing of Ms. Zagari Rammellzee the question is how will his work be preserved who will looking after the estate. will his work see a larger audience. how do we help to celebrate hip hop's finest intergalactic visual pioneer.

i have hip hop dream of creating a theater show about on of my heroes but know that one cannot create a piece on the scale its deserves with out public interest. and what i mean by that statement is there needs to be a wider public  perception of who the man really is. and that why we have presented with a contrived and disappointing  bipic of biggie and soon to come Tupac movie  because they carry huge public interest and will result in a profit for the films investors.

all artist have a rightful place, some more that others, some will just simply fade away other with develop mythical status.. will Rammellzee become another Major Taylor ( it you dont know him get to know)

Rammellzee should not be allowed to disappear in the either his work is as important as Jackson Pollock , or keith haring.. and even his good friend Basquiat. just a thought had is work been adopted by Mary Boone or appeared on public access television TV Party and his art work  sold for millions, i seroiusly dont think i would have need to wright this blog..

My condolances goes out to the surviving family..

i wish you all peace...

  1. RAMMELLZEE will not be forgotten. There are many of us who hold up his creative legacy as the Sun Ra of HIP-HOP and will make sure that he finds his place in the history books. His influence on the current crop of space travelers, Afro, Astro, or otherwise is profound and broad.
